Arrest and dark backgroundThis is the first post in a series which will deal with the issue of defending against drug charges in Long Island, New York. I am writing on this issue due to the fact that, for obvious reasons, many people do not know how to proceed after they or a loved one have been arrested. Failing to properly deal with the situation can have a devastating impact on one’s future. I am, therefore, addressing this topic in order to provide information which will help people to better understand their circumstances. It is also my goal to provide information which will assist with the selection of a criminal defense attorney. If you or a family member have been arrested then contact my office today to speak with a lawyer.

I will be addressing a number of topics over my coming articles. Matters which I will analyze include:

  • How search & seizure issues impact drug charges
  • Challenging arrests where law enforcement used a confidential informant
  • Handling matters which involve prescription drugs
  • Handling matters which involve methamphetamine, heroin, or similar substances

I am addressing these issues for a number of reasons. First, and unfortunately, it is not uncommon for law enforcement to violate an individual’s Fourth Amendment rights. If such a violation leads to incriminating evidence, then it may be possible to exclude the evidence from Court proceedings. Second, police sometimes use informants as part of their investigation. If the information from these informants is unreliable, then it may be possible to gain a dismissal of the charges. Third, many individuals make the mistake of thinking that illegally possessing prescription pills is “no big deal.” The fact of the matter, however, is that such possession can have serious consequences. Finally, it is important to understand the serious nature with which law enforcement and Judges take matters which involve “hard drugs.”

One point I cannot stress enough is that it is important to contact a criminal defense attorney immediately if you or a loved one have been arrested. Contacting counsel sooner, rather than later, can help to ensure that your representative has adequate time to build a case on your behalf. As a Long Island drug charge lawyer, I am able to assist with such matters. Contact my office today to schedule an initial consultation. Our office also serves Kings County residents in Brooklyn, residents of Queens, those in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, as well as people in other New York areas.
